These wicks have all been pre-waxed (primed), cut to the specified length, and tabs have already been crimped on. They are all ready for use. We offer a large variety of diameters (sizes) and lengths in several different styles. You may need to experiment to get the correct size and style wick for the candle you are making. You should always test burn your candle to determine which wick is best suited to your application. This chart lists the recommended wick sizes for various types and sizes of molds. Note that your wick needs may vary depending on your wax formula.
Please note that the information provided in the "Recommended Application" column is only a recommendation, not a guarantee. Also keep in mind that most of our recommended applications are based upon the wick being used in a traditional base paraffin wax. "Single Pour" paraffin waxes and vegetable waxes, (such as soy wax), generally require a larger wick than a traditional paraffin wax. This means, when using a single pour or soy wax, you will probably need to upsize your wick 1,2, or even 3 sizes to achieve the same size melt pool that would be achieved in a typical paraffin wax. As with any process in manufacturing your candles, you should always test burn to ensure proper wick selection.
Zinc Core Wickss
Coolest burning wick. Commonly used in container candles. Recommended for container candles that require a rigid wick
These are the most commonly used wick type for many types of candles. They may also be used for votives, pillars, and in gel candles. The wire core in the wick helps the wick to remain standing straight while the candle is being poured and when the candle is lit. They have been widely used since the use of lead cored wicks was discontinued long ago.

A cotton outer braid surrounds an inner core of cotton or paper. Commonly used in many types of candles. They are constructed with 100% natural fibers. The cotton core produces the hottest flame and the paper core produces a cooler flame than the cotton core but offers more rigidity.

HTP Series Wicks
Coreless, all cotton braided wicks which are designed to bend at the tip when burning, forcing the tip of the wick into the outermost portion of the flame where it burns hottest. The result is more complete combustion, leaving less carbon buildup (mushrooming) behind and less smoking. Can be used in votives, pillars, containers, and gel candles.
The HTP wick is flat braided in design, but with thin paper fibers intertwined. The result is a cleaner burning, self-trimming wick with additional structural strength, controlled curling and a hotter, more efficient flame. HTP wick is an excellent alternative in hard to burn applications and is a good all around choice for paraffin, gel and vegetable candles that require hotter burn conditions.

Cotton Wicks
A flat, coreless, cotton wick with thin paper filaments interwoven for burn stability. The specially treated paper threads provide a controlled curling of the wick making the ECO series self-trimming, wick results in minimized mushrooming, soot and smoke. ECO wicks are particularly successful in lower melt-point vegetable and paraffin waxes.

LX Wicks
Pre-primed and cut to various lengths, most often used in paraffin, but acceptable for use with soy. The LX Series wick produces less smoke and less carbon than zinc core wicks. The LX wick is a uniquely braided, Coreless, flat wick manufactured with stabilizing threads that ensure an optimum burn profile. The wick is directional in that capillary action flows more freely in one direction. Due to their intricate design, the RRD series provides a centered burn pool, self-trimming burn characteristics and a consistently high rate of fuel flow. These wicks work well with viscous fuels such as vegetable wax, gels and one pours. They are effective in containers and especially useful in pillars due to their concentric burn pools.

Burn Rate: Is the rate of wax consumption in ounces in one hour by the wick. The higher the burn rates the more wax which is being consumed. Used to determine how well a wick and wax combination is performing.
Make sure when ordering wicks that the length of the wick is long enough for your application. The length should be about 1" or longer than your container or mold. After your candle has completely hardened trim your wick to about ½" above the candle surface. If you have a long enough wick left over after removing the excess, then you can reuse the wick by putting your own wick tab on the end. You can find wick tabs in the wick section. Also don't forget to order wick stickers (OR OUR GLUE DOTS) to secure your wick to the bottom of the container, they too can be found in the wick section.
It is necessary to test burn for accurate results. We always recommend testing our wicks in the wax formula first, then add the color & test, lastly add the scent & test a final time. This method, although time consuming, will produce accurate results. Anytime a formula is changed at all testing should be redone for the optimum results. Many times different scents, colors, or containers require different wicks, as well as different waxes.

For a slower burning candle, refrigerate
before using and make sure candle is
wrapped in plastic or foil to prevent the wick from absorbing moisture.
After candles have been extinguished, re-center the wick.
Extinguish all candles when they get within 2 inches of the bottom.
To prevent an extinguished candle from smoking,
dip the wick into the melted wax.
Wick Type
Recommended Uses
Square Braid
Square Braid cotton wick is used in the majority of beeswax candles, tapers, pillars and citronella candles. This wick is also designed to give a slight bend at its tip when burning.
Flat Braid
Flat Braid Wick is used in taper and pillar candles. This wick is designed to bend slightly when burned allowing for an even burn and a reduction of carbon (mushrooming) at the tip.
Zinc Core
Metal is used in wicks to help them stand up in candles that produce deeper melt pools. Zinc core burns the coolest and is the most commonly used wick type in container candles, votives and tea lights. Note: These are known to mushroom and sometimes smoke more than other types. (In the past Lead and Tin were sometimes used, but those are no longer on the market in the US.)
Paper Core
Paper core burns the hottest and is good for waxes that require heavy duty wicking to achieve a good melt pool. Used in container candles. Note: Some candlemakers report that these cause candles to smoke more in some applications.
Hemp Core
Hemp is a strong natural fiber which makes for rigid wicks that will stand up straight while burning. Can be used in containers, votives and pillars.
Coreless Cotton
These all cotton braided wicks are designed to bend at the tip when burning, forcing the tip of the wick into the outer portion of the flame where it burns the hottest. This causes more complete combustion, leaving less carbon (mushroom) behind and less smoking, making for a cleaner burn. These also tend to require less trimming, and are sometimes referred to as "self trimming". Usually used in container candles as an alternative to cored wicks.
