Heavy Duty 3-D
CHANGES IN THE 3D MOLD MATERIAL -
There are several differences between the three materials we have used in the past, ABS, HIPS, and PETG. ABS and HIPS are both not FDA approved materials as is. We have to special order this quality from the factory which adds an additional expense and lead time to our orders. Originally the additional expense was easily absorbed into the product price, however with the ever rising cost of petroleum based products we can no longer continue paying the price for these materials w/ FDA approval without raising our prices. PETG (aka Vivak) is not only FDA approved as is, but is also NSF Registered as well, which is a much greater certification. This material is as safe as possible for food/cosmetic use as is, without us having to spend more to reach an acceptable level of safety, making it possible for us to keep our prices as low as possible for as long as possible.
We have received a lot of positive comments from chocolate makers, who absolutely love the PETG for the glossy shine it imparts on the casts, and it's durability. We've received many positive comments regarding our change from opaque ABS to clear PETG 3D molds, and only two negative ones. Most users love the clear plastic in the 3D molds as they can see the rope when casting soap on a rope. Also, PETG has a anti-wetting property which greatly aids in release, which our CP users swear by.
Please note that our clear plastic is a much higher quality than the average clear PVC plastic most molds are made from.
