Though steam distilled from the same botanical species as Mandarin Essential Oil, Petitgrain Mandarin Essential Oil possesses its own characteristically unique aroma. The Mandarin Essential Oil is extracted from the peels of the fruit by cold compression, while the Mandarin Petitgrain Essential Oil is extracted from the fresh leaves through steam distillation. There is a Petitgrain from almost every citrus species; however the petitgrains are not distilled as frequently as the peel so they tend to be rare.
